Festival of Gore
They run the bulls down narrow streets in Pamplona.
Humans wish to join the snarling creatures
as they charge toward death in the ring.
Bodies careen down the path while villagers shout.
Amid this chaos a bull gores an author,
the horn piercing just shy of the femoral.
When this man wrote his book on surviving this run,
he gave no advice on dying, no advice to the bull
he will later praise for its beauty
as he recovers in a nearby hospital
while the bull is killed by the estocada.
